Many proctors are not teachers, at least at our school. Teachers need to be available to teach their regularly scheduled class periods.

I was more curious if the teachers got paid past their duty hours. Anyone know? I didn’t feel bad for the kids, it was teachers I was thinking about!

Our school sends multiple emails that kids need to be picked up for PM exams. Its just a one time thing. They did the best they can. If you can do better, get a job doing it.

Yes, AP has strict rules about when you can open the test to prevent situations where people access the test before others and share information.

If a student accessed the test due to extended time at 10 a.m., they could be finished and have access to technology before the West Coast kids opened theirs. Surely you can see the problem.

College Board schedules the dates and starting times for the exams. It’s not up to individual schools. There are 2 exams per day (8:00 and 12:00 in your local time zone) each exam day over a two week period. Every exam will be taken by kids who get extra time. They can’t make all exams morning exams without having twice as many testing days, which would be extremely disruptive.

I don’t know if this is true, but my understanding is that one of my kid’s teachers said that the teachers used to get paid extra to proctor AP exams, but they no longer do.

My 2E kid had an IEP and double time. I was so grateful to the public school for giving him all the time he needed, and for the proctors who stayed so long. Same for his ACT, the different sections of which needed to be scheduled on different days.

Now in college he's slowly weaning himself off the double time. Maybe he'll only need 50% soon! Phew. That double time didn't bode well for the workplace.

I have twins who took the same noon exam. One gets extra time (time-and-a-half) and the other doesn’t. They both finished after 4:00 but before 4:30.

You’re lucky your kid got extended time in the first place. Stop complaining.

It depends on the AP test... sounds like the AP Euro test is one of the longer ones.

Yes

And also, kids/teachers/coverage/spaces can have a morning and afternoon test on the same day.

College board sets the start times for each exam to discourage cheating. Similar to the SAT, this is not at the discretion of the site.

Huh? My kid doesn't have extended time and was done at 4:30 for the afternoon test.
