Thanks. How tough is the fabric?

I know this sounds like a weird suggestion, but I was recently at Staples and they had some really awesome travel backpacks. I wish I remembered the brand but I don’t. We’re gonna be heading back over there soon to take a look at them because it’s exactly what my DH needs for upcoming travel.

Osprey makes one with a detachable day pack. I got this one for my kid last year. I recommend buying it at REI because they will fit it for you.

Thanks. Looks like the travel versions might be what my kid needs. I really hoped to find one that had a detachable daypack. Any other brands come to mind?

The Daylite bags in that listing are made to also be detachable daypacks compatible with many of their bigger backpacks.

This is like the classic backpacking through Europe backpack. It's a lot like a camping pack, external frame, but the youths arm to like it. Specially if they're taking trains and staying in hostels

Interesting. The metal frame doesn’t get banged around too badly when checked in?

Yes but they only seemed to stock Osprey or REI’s own brand and most seemed more for camping than backpacking.

Downside no place for water bottles

Osprey makes great bags too.

Thanks. Not for me but for one of my teens who is going to go backpacking for a month. Your suggestion looks nice but not really what I am looking for.

Any recommendations for places to buy a good quality backpacking for traveling around Europe? Recommendations for brands also appreciated. Something like this.

https://www.macpac.co.nz/macpac-gemini-aztec-75l-travel-backpack/114337.html?dwvar_114337_color=Black&dwvar_114337_clearance=no#start=5

Ideal features would be a detachable daypack, a all-round zip opening rather than toploading pack, padded adjustable straps plus hip and chest strap.

TIA!
