The people of WV get a bad rep for having terrible teeth not because they are too poor to visit the dentist, but because the majority of WV residents have well water or natural spring water, not municipal city water. Well water and natural springs do not have added fluoride.

Both of my parents were born and raised in WV. Both grew up with well water. Both have terrible teeth and had full sets of dentures in their late 40s. Same for my aunts, uncles, and cousins who still live in
WV on well and spring water. Most adults have terrible teeth with lots missing or have dentures.

This is fascinating. I grew up in rural British Columbia with well water and my parents gave me florida tablets every day. I still can remember the taste of those little pink pills. I've never had a cavity my entire life. I gotta credit those tablets! I only took them from age 2-5, then we moved to USA. My little sister never took the tablets because we were on municipal water in USA -- and she did get cavities. Not a crazy number-- pretty typical for USA kids her age.

But who knows . . . I have good strong teeth, maybe because of the tablets . . but maybe something else is wrong with me because of the tablets?

oops-- spell check "Fixed" my attempt to write "floride" with "Florida".

Yes. In the state of Florida can require that a woman to delivery a baby, but can’t require people to care for their teeth? Ok, got it.

What's next, ban dentists from offering fluoride treatments so we all end up looking like we smoke meth?

I used to live in rural Maine where many people drank well water. The tooth decay was real. You'd be shocked at how many gap-toothed people there were, old and young.
