Thanks, all, for your responses, which show quite a range in cooking times. Sound like the Tatung might be the one for me; I'll check it out!

To add, I have a small, very basic, Cuisinart rice cooker. If I’m just cooking a little bit, it’s under half an hour. 35/40 min is for 1-2 cups. The cooker shuts off automatically when the rice is done, so times will vary.

Wow, that's slow.

Have a little one that cooks based upon spring pressure and water weight in the bowl, so it self adjusts somewhat. Takes about 25 min from plugging it in to finish, then it stays on "warmer" mode after that, so have to unplug it fast or it will dry it out.

The only cooking difference between white and brown rice is you must add a little real butter to the brown rice or it will form a pasty goo instead.

Always rinse rice well before cooking. Many companies, especially sourced overseas stuff, will add microplastics to the rice to keep them from sticking together so much.

It depends on the rice cooker. I have a new cuckoo pressurized rice cooker and it takes 30-40 min for brown rice. I often cheat and buy the Nishiki brown rice that is precooked.

I use Tatung rice cooker, it’s about 20 min cook time then let it simmer for another 10 min then it’s ready to eat. Brown rice to water ratio is about 1:1.25-1.5, outside water 1-1.25 cup.

I have a Zororushi.
Small amount white sushi rice takes 50 minutes. Brown about 90.

It takes about two hours in my rice cooker. If I’m making brown rice on a weeknight, I use the timer feature and set it before I leave for work that morning.

It depends on your settings. My rice cooker has a quick song so it only takes 40 minutes. The biggest difference is the increase in the rice to water ratio. For brown rice you want 1 part rice to 2 parts water.
