Swedish Sauna song is my favorite. It's so light. Perfect fun or drinking song for Northern Europe. The only other one I remember is Espresso Macchiato. Rybak's short version of it with violin is beautiful.

My husband grew up with it being a huge thing, so in our house we treat it like most people treat sports playoffs. Two of my kids are in college now but they'll be home by the finals, which we take VERY seriously (decorations, score cards, themed food). Years ago my oldest made a truly tacky trophy out of an old soccer participation trophy and lots of glitter that we award to the person who picks the winner and right now I'm the reigning champion (thanks Nemo!) We'll see who takes it this year.

Honestly, it's always been such a fun thing to do as a family and I love that our older kids still want to engage with it. It's ridiculous and silly but who doesn't need a little of that in their lives?

I didn’t used to watch it when I was younger, then my kids got into it during COVID when they were showing old contests from years ago every week. Ever since then it’s been an annual tradition in my house. Yes most of the songs are crap, and yes the UK always gets the lowest points, but it’s still fun.

I was a teenager living in France that year Celine won the Eurovision. She was my all-time favorite contestant and I was so glad she became a worldwide name a few years later!

OP here. I like the fact it's campy, I find it amusing. That's why I called it a spectacle in my OP. None of these reality TV contests are about the music or talent anymore...they're all about standing out or having an earworm in order to gain popularity votes. Eurovision just does it on a continental/worldwide scale rather than a country scale, so there's much more exposure. Personally I think it's a fun way to spend a few hours of my time...others may not and that's okay too.

There had been rumors that ABBA would perform at the 2024 event since it was held in Sweden, but it didn’t happen.

OP here, I've seen those too. It feels like she's waiting to see how her health is so no full commitment yet. It would be awesome to see her though!

I do believe Eurovision live streams the event on YouTube, but it will be blocked in the US because Peacock has the rights. You may be able to get around that however with a VPN blocker or something similar (I'm not well versed in those kind of things).

And if anyone is interested in voting in Semifinal #1 tomorrow, I believe voting for the Rest of the World opens at midnight on the day of until when the show starts...then opens again after all performances. You can vote through the Eurovision app and website. Note that these votes do count as foreign transactions so your credit card may charge a fee.

It's Eurovision week! Here's a thread for those of you who enjoy the spectacle.

My favorites this year are:
Sweden (Love the sauna song and so glad Måns didn't make it)
Luxembourg (Hoping the onstage performance goes up a notch)
Malta (There was a thread here recently on how Malta is super conservative and I thought: they sent a song called "Serving Kant" to Eurovision, come on lol)
Switzerland (So beautiful)
Slovenia (I saw his wife will be on stage with him and I know I 100% will cry)

Hopefully there will be no Joost-like drama this year and Martin O won't get booed.
