I like this area too. The whole stretch south of Clearwater to st Pete is nice. Madeira beac$x St. John’s pass. You need a car.

Food isn’t great anywhere around there though.

We went there for a few days over Spring Break and I really liked it. Small, family friendly town and beautiful beaches. They had a decent amount of damage from the hurricane and there are buildings that are now empty and/or torn down, but overall the town was really cute. We rented and Airbnb - not any large hotels there.

I like Indian Rocks Beach.

We like Dunedin- a short drive north of Clearwater beach. Has a fun downtown and quirky vibe.

Loved the Sandpearl, stayed there last spring break thanks to DCUM recs.

I love Clearwater. Get a suite gulf side at Opal sands resort.

As a Floridian, this. Clearwater and Clearwater Beach are the Daytona Beach of the Gulf. I don’t know who told you they are “nice”, but I don’t want you to have to find out for yourself.

Or try DonCeSar in St Pete Beach if it's done with repairs after the hurricanes. Not walkable.
All those beaches are safe if you mean crime.
But watch for currents, etc.
