Have downloaded the app, added our Visa cards (if you are an authorized user, primary user can add their card to their phone, and AU can add their card to their phone and both qualify for the promo), activated the promos and "purchased" (for $0) the e-sims, but haven't activated them yet, will do so on our summer trip. Have confirmed you can stack them also- add multiple e-sims, and when you burn through the data on one, can just turn that off and activate the next one.

Checked in the app, it says "valid in 176 countries" and then has a very long list, it's basically anywhere outside the US, since its marketed to US residents traveling outside the US. So pretty sure you don't need to change e-sim traveling between countries.

I used HolaFly on a recent week-long trip. Very affordable (a fraction of the cost of turning on Verizon's international service) and functioned great across multiple countries. Installation was a little buggy despite their step-by-step directions, but I was also doing it on the train, so possibly that factored in. However, was able to get guidance through their WhatsApp help chat that got me squared away.

Having previously paid for my US carrier's coverage, then fiddled with buying and swapping physical SIMs, eSIMs are a vast improvement.

There are instruction videos online. How hard it is depends on the country. Usually it's easy but there can be little tricky steps.

I've used Airalo twice. In France, there was no issue. It seemed pretty straightforward, and it was easy to install and activated quickly when I arrived. I think I might have had to turn off my phone and turn it back on after arrival, but otherwise no issues. In the UK, I couldn't get it to activate right away. I would say it took about 6-7 hours before it worked. And I did try to use the app to chat with someone, but I wasn't really getting a response. Then about 7 hours later, I checked and it had connected. Luckily my travel companion was using AT&T and she had no issues connecting, so we were able to use her phone and maps.

I just did it. The instructions were long but clear and step by step, and it worked. Very cheap too.

I couldn’t make calls but had data for iMessage, WhatsApp, and other apps.

Our phones don't have physical Sim cards any more. Has anyone paid for an international eSim in Europe? Does this exist?
