We stay at the Winnetu resort. There is a hotel shuttle that goes to downtown Edgartown multiples times a day which is such a nice perk because even with a car parking can be challenging during peak hours. I think if you want to explore, it is better to have a car but you can certainly get by with ubers.

BTW, this is an anniversary getaway for me and my wife; we're really looking forward to it.

You will be fine without a car in Edgartown. There are lots of taxis and the hotels you are looking at are walkable to restaurants. You are going to love it.

If you are in Edgartown you can get most places by foot, bus or bike. You can also do a one day car rental if you want to go farther afield. I think those are mostly in Oak Bluffs near the ferry.

The bus system is great, there is an app you can download to pay for it. The bus is not as on-demand as a car would be, but you can get by using the bus pretty well. If you are staying in Edgartown, Oak Bluff, or Vineyard Haven, there will be plenty to walk to. IMO of those three towns, OB has the best beaches. The truly best beaches are on the south side of the island.

The flight is super convenient and surprisingly cheap, but unless you are in a really great location you’ll probably want a car for seeing the island. There are buses and Ubers though. another option might be fly to Hyannis and rent a car there.

Lodging is hard to find in MV. There are no chain hotels. Mostly weekly rentals. If you don’t have lodging I would focus on that first; it’s not like other destinations where you can just show up and find something.

American and Jet Blue have direct flights from DCA.

We’re looking to spend five days in late July on MV. If we fly there, how easy is it to get around without a car?

Also, any lodging recommendations would be appreciated. Hotel? Bed & breakfast? AirBnB? Thanks.
