OP and I should have specified that I’m looking for “mandatory random” as PP above called it. I think that “optional random” is more of a good option for boys than girls, unfortunately.

Brown as already stated, other kid allows. I prefer it be mandatory random.

SLACs tend to require it and the other schools will do it if kids don't have a roommate.

Could you share the names of these schools? My DD is considering a variety of SLACs next year and not all of them make this info especially clear on public-facing parts of their websites.

Davidson. School assigns based on an interesting questionnaire and MBTI. It’s a big part of campus culture, in a good way.

Most of them will assign a roommate if the student doesn't pick one.
