Solutions? It is not a massive amount but I want to be preventive. I have been using windex.

Crazy as it sounds it seems ants are getting from the walls?

They must have a nest somewhere. They come out seasonally and will disappear soon. If they really bother you then use the Terro bait.

Go to the hardware store. Buy an exterior spray for ants. Spray your home perimeter next to the foundation. Also do doorways. Walk the perimeter every week and spray any ant trails you see. Avoid piles of leaves and debris against the foundation of your house.

While in the store also buy an indoor people/pet friendly option. I used to get something, but cannot remember the name.

Sorry no product names, I moved out of my “ant” house years ago.

The key is to start treating as soon as you see a single ant in your house or an ant trail on your exterior. It took me a couple spring seasons to realize this!

No OP no.

Do the Terro. Like others said it can look worse which only lasts for a bit but can look like a horror movie. Then they take it back to all their friends.

I removed sugar and honey from the pantry, where the black ants had built a colony. It was such a terrifying experience that I couldn’t fall asleep at night. I couldn’t cook for two weeks.
I even found the black ants in the master bath where I had almond+ honey soap and shampoo.
I cleaned walls, sinks, and floors with alcohol and other products.
It was one of the worse summers I’ve ever had.

You definitely don’t need to treat the exterior if you live in the dc area. Just put out some Terro for them. Or you can make your own by mixing borax in honey. They chow down for a few days and a few days later they’re gone.

The pp with all the spray outside stuff maybe lives in Florida or somewhere where the ants are more serious.

I’ve heard advion is crazy and works well but apparently highly poisonous to the ant colonies. Some things I read on Reddit scared me but I’m prepared to try it if ants are back too soon!

Third Terro. I bought a whole bunch, put some out, and the ants were gone, I didn't need the rest

Someone posted this exact question about a month ago.

Diatomaceous earth for sugar ants. Nontoxic.

My grandpa got ants in his first floor condo in Florida - he put some chemical on tinfoil to clear them out.

Second Terro. It gets worse and then they disappear for a while. But they come back and then we use terro again.

Terro liquid. Put some on an aluminum foil square, right in their path(s). Things will look worse but will get better within few days.

Try Combat for ants--non-toxic, takes a few days. They ants vanish into the black boxes and you don't have to deal with them.
