Subject: Survey on high school magnets/programs
Here is what I said is needed. YMMV.
Another engineering program, preferably west/upcounty
Another Global Ecology program, preferably east/downcounty
A true performing arts magnet, audition based. Unfortunately the survey lumped in all arts, which ignores the fact that a fine arts magnet already exists but a performing arts one does not

NP. I agree that the survey was distressingly short, and would not allow the answer that I think makes the most sense, which is to get rid of "Honors for All."
Right now, magnets are the only way for a high schooler in MCPS to access an accelerated and differentiated curriculum in 9th and 10th grades.
So magnets have become much more important than they need to be. MCPS would not need to expand the number of magnets if they would just go back to flexible or opt-in tracking and get rid of the Honors for All model.

I had the same thoughts. This survey didn't strike as terribly useful.

FYI, MCPS just sent out a survey regarding what kinds of magnets and other high school programs students should have access to, as part of the "Program Analysis" they are doing to assess what programs should be available in what locations and "ensure that all students have access to high-quality programs and that programs available meet the needs of our community, industry demands, and maximize the use of resources."
