JFK took a 1$ salary when he was President because he was rich. No one called him a volunteer. Elon may not get paid by the US taxpayer because it benefits him more not to bother with signing the ethics and financial disclosures he should be subject to (but isn't, because apparently no one cares about ethics in this administration anymore).
