In the $200-$300 range, Amazon has an Acer 34" ultra-wide monitor 3440x1440 pixels. Its new but last year's model. I have a similar Acer for my MBP and it works fine.

My teenager is interested in using a monitor for homework, so that she's not always on the small laptop screen. We borrowed a friend's to test it out and it was a hit, so we are now looking to buy one. Would prefer 24-inch due to size of the desk (and this is the same size as the one she tried, so it should be fine), but beyond that I have no idea what to get. I would prefer not to spend too much--ideally under $200 and certainly under $300--in part because I worry that at some point she'll lose interest and stop using it.
