McConnell is regretting his decision. Thune is no McConnell but he's not an idiot. I doubt anything will come of this but as things continue to deteriorate, this time might be different.

Trump is breaking all sorts of norms and rules (and laws). He's the first to do many things. Maybe he'll be the first president to be impeached and removed.

It won’t lead to any repercussions for Trump, but it’s a dereliction of duty if no representative introduces articles of impeachment for a president who commits high crimes and misdemeanors out in the open on a daily basis. Just because no one will force Trump to do the right thing doesn’t mean that no one else should do the right thing.

Exactly. Nobody is getting impeached unless the Democrats get both the House and Senate back, and even then they’d be better off just stonewalling him until 2028.

It’s less about impeachment and more about forcing the votes. Forcing people to go on record. Forcing people to voice their support for this administration. Forcing members of the administration to testify.

It’s easy to do nothing, but how many republicans will be willing to go on record? It’s all evidence for the courts later, or at the very least, evidence for when elections come around again.

All of this. The problem is, it isn't just Trump. It is the entire cabinet and everyone who is supporting this. And we all know, if the GOP in the House and Senate go along with this, the brownshirts will start a civil war.

Trump actions to remove voting rights is more persuasive than the threat of being voted out. Taking away voting rights has been the Republicans Holy Grail for decades.

Trump is setting up single-party rule, like Russia and China who he says are the strongest countries, and the Republicans want to be a part of it.

"Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as President and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy," said Rep. Thanedar. "His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act."

The resolution includes seven articles of impeachment outlining a range of constitutional violations:

-Obstruction of Justice and Abuse of Executive Power: Including denial of due process, unlawful deportations, defiance of court orders, and misuse of the Department of Justice.
-Usurpation of Appropriations Power: For dismantling congressionally established agencies and impounding federal funds.
-Abuse of Trade Powers and International Aggression: Including imposing economically damaging tariffs and threatening military invasion against sovereign nations.
-Violation of First Amendment Rights: Through retaliatory actions against critics, media, and attorneys exercising constitutionally protected speech.
-Creation of an Unlawful Office: By establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”) and unlawfully empowering Elon Musk to unilaterally violate the Constitution.
-Bribery and Corruption: Involving dismissing criminal cases, soliciting foreign emoluments, and extortionate settlements for personal and political gain.
-Tyrannical Overreach: Seeking to consolidate unchecked power, erode civil liberties, and defy constitutional limits on presidential authority.

…and corrupt. Let’s never miss an opportunity to remind everyone how incredibly, outrageously, monumentally, historically corrupt these people are.

While I initially thought this was a dumb stunt, these articles of impeachment cover the bases. They have it all.

This probably won't go anywhere, but it might. There's a tremendous amount of anger right now, and it's not just on the D side.
