French 3 was a bit hard - it was a big jump from French 2 in middle school to French 3 in TJ. But DC got used to it and thus AP French became a tad more manageable. If you are considering taking language, strongly advise to take 4 years. If not AP French, take French 4. 4 years of language looks good for college application. Telling from experience with my 2 kids!
French 3 at TJ is challenging, for sure. Current teacher for French 3 is a native French speaker who used to teach at UPenn so expectations are very high. Increased focus on vocabulary and writing vs. speaking and a jump from French 2 in difficulty.
As a heads up, my kid told me that the French 4 and AP class is currently "blended" together so there is really no significant difference aside from the "bump" you get in GPA for AP. I don't know what enrollment will look like for next year but for now, there is 1 class that includes French 4 and AP together.
