She will be fine if she is a great fit with the house. Many OOS kids rush/pledge at UNC.
The bigger issue is there are not many sororities there.

I have a friend whose daughter from the northeast went to an SEC school with no connections. She had friends who had been in the sororities her daughter was interested in do recommendations, even though these friends were in the sororities at different schools. I believe this was helpful, though likely not as helpful as recs from someone who had been in the sororities at the actual school, either in the past or currently.

Rush in Chapel Hill is NOT like SEC schools and is a lot more laid back. Greek life also does not rule the social scene, it is a part of it but it isn’t like at some schools where if you aren’t a Greek there is nothing to do.
She should be fine. I was OOS and rushed and had no issues at all. I pledged a great sorority, live in the house my sophomore year and then rented a house with sorority sisters my junior and senior years. Loved it.

She's admitted and UNC is a top choice (decisions due Thursday!!)
No first hand experience with unc but being from a different area than most doesn’t help with getting into sororities. But is she’s open minded she’ll likely get a bid. What are her other alternatives?
