Yes, I got one 2nd hand maybe 10 years ago for a few hundred bucks. And it already looked like an 80s model. It's still going strong. I make smoothies, juice (by blending vegs and straining through cheesecloth), and puree soup. Occasionally oat or nut milk.

Things like hummus or nut butter are a pain because they are not liquid enough so I don't make those any more. Those would be better in a food processor.

My blendtec is 15 years old and still going strong. So yes.

We have both a Nutribullet and a Vitamix - the Vitamix can can make frozen margaritas easily, the Nutribullet just chops up the ice.

My mom has had hers for 30 years and uses it frequently, still going strong. The new ones are obviously not all metal like hers is, but we've had ours for about five years with near daily use (we make smoothies), it's still going strong.

I got my vitamix on sale through a promotion at Costco. It's amazing for smoothies and soups (though I just blend up in there and then transfer to my pot to actually warm up. I think it's stupid to have a Vitamix warm up soup).

Never tried nut butters. I think I would do those in my food processor maybe?

I don't know how to get it with the metal container.

I have a Vitamix…but I never use it! We have a Nutribullet that is in heavy rotation - at least one smoothie a day (sometimes 2). If you just want something for smoothies, get a nicer nutribullet (not the basic model).

We have a Vitamix we got at a discount through this program:

https://pediatricfeedingnews.com/vitamix-hospital-blender-charity-program/

It was a game changer for my kid who was on a diet of whole blended foods, that we fed him through a feeding tube. Our previous cheap Target blender was nothing like it!

It works well for other things -- pureed soups or smoothies. My budget is such that I wouldn't have bought it for that reason alone.

I don't know if they still have the program, we've had ours for quite some time.

I could not cook without it. I’d have to give up a lot of favorite recipes.

I've had mine for at least 11 years. Never had a blender last this long. But I'd definitely spring for the metal container as a PP suggested.

Buy a vitamix off of facebook marketplace. I see them there often.

+1
I like it but basically just use it for smoothies and not sure it’s hundreds of dollars better at that than the ninja we have at our beach house

I like it but I’d get the metal not plastic. But I don’t know if that’s much better in terms of poison or taste.

...has the cost been worth it?

My cheap blender recently crapped out, so I'm in the market for a new one. I'm leaning toward the $80-$120 range Ninjas or Nutribullets, but wondering if I should bite the bullet on a nicer model. I need something that can handle ice/frozen fruit well.

TY!
