In general, don’t do anything just for college applications.

My son stopped wrestling completely by 9th grade because it was too much of a grind and commitment. But it’s a great sport. Before then, the most serious wrestlers trained year round in private wrestling clubs. There are many in the area. If you son wants to become more serious, because he loves wrestling, we can help you find a club if you post your location.

He likes it and wants to train year around. My concern is that it takes too much time. So, I want to know whether it helps college application. If not, I would suggest him spending more time on other activities. We are in Maryland.

It helps if he wants to be recruited for college wrestling. Otherwise, it helps to make him a better HS wrestler.

And no, I can’t imagine he’s getting recruited as a one season HS only wrestler unless he’s training hard in another sport. I can think of one kid we know who was in college but he was an all around multi sport varsity player who picked up wrestling late and dominated. You don’t see many of those.

School only has one season - winter. For off season, DC only attend summer camps. DC would like to do all year around, but struggling with schedule. Just wonder, at what level can be recruited or be helpful for college application?
