get an old car instead? I was trying to get an SUV for more space and I had my eye on a hybrid but I think the home repairs would be a better idea, correct? And just look for an older dependable car right now? I am also a relatively new driver, but I wanted to drive a safer car that I had more features and sensors. So does anyone have any suggestions? What I should do here? Or what? Kind of older car that is SUV is reliable and has a hybrid function?

A house is an investment and will continue to make you more in equity if you maintain it and don't let it deteriorate.

A vehicle is not an investment unless it's an antique and already expensive. SUV's are gas guzzling status symbols that serve no real purpose.

Newer vehicles cost so much due to all the computer systems and sensors and other garbage tech gadgets. They would be HALF the price they are if all that junk was removed.

TLDR - Houses are investments and worth keeping and maintaining. Cars are money pits and new ones are overpriced.

Not if you do not own the house.

Yeah the windows need to be replaced due to poor insulation and they look terrible. The carport is not pretty and attracts hornet nests and bird nests. I'm thinking of and enclosing the carport for her so she doesn't have to deal with all that and it would look much better and extra room would be very official too because the area the house is in is in a good location. If I do all that of course I would need to find a car that is more economical for me.

You are talking about her house? Do you have an ownership stake in the house or do you live there? Replacement windows cost a lot. Maybe look at replacing the weather gaskets on the windows. Carport always have birds and hornets. It would be cheaper to have a pest control company come out in the spring and summer. If it is not your house the owner should do this type of work. They can get a home loan. If you don’t want to get a home loan or do the work why are you paying for it?

I do not understand you paying for this cosmetic work on someone else’s house unless you have lots of money to burn.

If you need a car buy a car. Look at a 1-2 year old used car. The three year old car market is mostly turned in lease vehicles. Sometimes these are good deal there. Also there are still some good EV lease options out there- $200 a month and $3-4k down.

This.

Regarding your mom, no. Do not pay for her home repairs. Houses are bottomless pits. They absorb thousands of dollars with little to show for it. Your mom’s home is not your responsibility. Maybe she should move.

2 months ago, we looked at Toyota Highlander at Tyson it was over 50k & they had only 1 car on the lot.

I've had my Subaru Outback for 13 years and intend to keep it another 7. My family keeps Subarus for 20 years. They are dependable and safe cars. Highlanders are underpowered and couldn't make it up a mountain in Colorado. Buy a used Subaru, OP and pitch in to help your help with the five thousand you're saving on buying used.

How long do you anticipate your mother to live in this house? You could think of these upgrades as a pre-sale investment. That way, if she needs a nursing home, or you inherit the house, you might indirectly benefit.

I would not buy a new car unless yours is definitely on its last legs.

I don’t think these two home projects are good returns on your investment. New windows will probably never recoup their price. Yes they are prettier, easier to open and will help utility bills…just not as much as you think. (We got new windows about 10 years ago). Enclosing a carport may work for you but a prospective buyer may be turned off.

That eye watering price though. What happened with the Subaru that you wouldn't own one again?

The features don't make the car safe. You being noticing other new, aggressive, or under the influence drivers around you is more important.
I would not fix a frumpy house. I would use the money to fix something that is about to break or cause further damage.
Think about investing into market. Not to make millions right away, but to learn using ca $2-$3k. Do it inside of Roth if possible.

So I had my eye on a Subaru but I am wondering if I should invest that money for my mother's home repairs instead. That really needs it because the house is starting to look dumpy. My mom can't make her own decisions to save her life since my dad left so I have to make all the decisions for her. She was very dependent on my dad. I'm a single woman but I help her with almost everything + I'm wondering if I should postpone the new car even with the tariffs hype + get an old car instead? I was trying to get an SUV for more space and I had my eye on a hybrid but I think the home repairs would be a better idea, correct? And just look for an older dependable car right now?
