I know someone who said if you get into a sorority, it's great. Otherwise, a little more difficult socially.

For merit aid and since the student can't therefore be ED, apply widely. Very widely. Don't overthink it, throw in an application. Having visited or not.

Imho, make sure a few applications are EA or rolling. Apply in Aug/Sept. Pick those first.

My kid is sporty and very "run of the mill" for this area. They aren't nerdy, musical or into theater or the they/them vibe. They also didn't like UMW because it is too close to home so that school is out of the running. They want the big rah rah school but they want it a few notches below say 'Bama.

But is it on par with Alabama or a step down? I think DD will tolerate a few notches down but feels more comfortable in that env than UMW emo.

OP here. Actually, UMW was "very emo" for my kid and they specifically did not like it. It was the precise school I had in mind when looking for exact alternatives.

Nothing emo about it. Very social and girl heavy, think like 68%. School is amidst Charleston so lots of action surrounding it. I think the pathway is different and that’s how you can tell if on campus or not.

This is what I hear, too.

This sounds about right. A few kids from our town have gone in recent years. One is bookish and a science major. The others are very social. All but one have been very happy.

What kind of student would be happy there? Looking at this school for a well balanced (ie: not super social), Bish student from NOVA public. Interested in mid sized schools with a social, non-emo vibe. Looking into sports science/ health major. Would need merit to attend.

Can anyone with recent experience speak to this school?
