That’s different from what they are talking about. You are correct that actuaries and math majors working in finance usually only have bachelors degrees.
However, quant and ai jobs (job titles of “Quantitative Researcher” and “Research Scientist @ Tech Company”) are research jobs and thus require PhDs.
Totally different from actuaries and hedge fund managers.
