they don't have to be able to drive, just having a permit allows them to learn

Yes, I understand. Technically, they only need a permit, but what I’m asking is do they need to know the basics before they get in the car with the teacher? What

I sent my teen to her first lesson w/ zero road experience. They were very patient for that first lesson while she got her driving feet

For everyone here recommending I Drive Smart: how are you able to even find lesson slots with them that aren’t in some place like Culpepper at 6 am on a Sunday?

Am I missing something? And I’m looking as far as 3 months down the line.

Another vote for idrivesmart.
I think you can go at any point to idrivesmart but if they aren't very well practiced, it may take them longer before they pass.

We were very happy with Aloha Bob. We also know other families who were happy with iDriveSmart.

iDrive Smart was amazing for my DS. Highly recommend.
(my older DD used another company and I wish I had known about iDrive Smart back then)

Yes the parents teach them but the DMV requires a certificate from a driving school, what used to be called the "road test."

DS is turning 15 1/2 soon and will be eligible for a learner’s permit. Please share your experiences with different VA-based driving schools.

I Drive Smart seems to be the one that’s most often recommended but it only has 3 stars on Yelp. Any other schools near Old Town?
