Why would you go all the way to Hawaii to spend most of the time by the pool?

definitely book some sort of snorkeling tour to see the turtles. We did molikini crater, with stop in a are with a lot of turtles but may be a bit much for 5 yr old.

Loved the Grand Wailea. Snorkle with the turtkes and omg the body wash smell is amazing! I still think about it years later.

Have fun! We went in early December so it wasn’t crazy crowded.

OP, how was your stay? Planning to go in August with two kids, and recent online reviews make me nervous. Sounds like a lot of not great things going on there…

Order some pool toys on Amazon before you go and bring them...you can use the toys in the pool but this is a much cheaper option than buying at the little store by the pool. You also may be able to buy some at the local ABC stores or Whaler's...not sure but again probably cheaper than the pool store.

Unfortunately pool chairs go quick, so if you want a specific spot get to the pool when it opens to reserve (I think 7am?) One person can hang out at the pool while the other does breakfast. The pool slides are cool.

The road driving up Haleakala is crazy and wonderful, and being at the top over the clouds is insane. It's something unique to experience. Make sure going down you use a lower gear or else you'll have smelly burning brakes. We went in the afternoon and on our way we had lunch at Polli's Mexican, it was good.

The aquarium is small but nice, they have a cool rubbing activity for the kids.

The luau at the Grand Wailea is pretty awesome. I used to dance hula many many years ago and dislike cheesy hula shows. The Grand Wailea one was excellent and had a cool fire guy at the end. The food was decent and our kid loved it. It's not cheap but we found it worth it, and it's just a walk across the property to get to. There were lots of kids there when we went.

We didn't get to Lahaina on this trip and I have no idea how it is since the fires. In the past my H and I enjoyed Lahaina and it was a great place to watch the sunset.

A couple of more food options: Maui Brewing Company has a restaurant in Wailea. The beer is good and they had kid stuff on the menu. Monkeypod Kitchen in Wailea was yummy, I think it takes reservations. There's a mall next door to the hotel which had some good ice cream. There's a Safeway in Kihei where we bought snacks and drinks for the room.

Finally, the Grand Wailea had a Kids Club when we were there. I'm not sure if they still have it since covid. We did a morning session which was about 9-1 which included lunch. Our kid loved it and it gave my H and I some time to ourselves then a leisurely lunch.

Hope this helps even though it's been a few years!

I hate resorts that have more guests than pool chairs. Sorry for getting sidetracked. We always bring our own snorkel gear to Hawaii and buy cheap sand toys at Walmart or Target when we land. Maybe also buy a cheap boogie board. I don't think they have the kids' club anymore - it seems to be a staffing issue. My kids loved Haleakala, and my husband and I love Hana, so I second that both are worth doing. Enjoy!

We loved the luau at the Grand Wailea.

Consider renting a casabella at the pool just so you ensure you have a place.

We also went zip lining and surfing in Maui, but your kids are probably too young for that.

Driving down to LaPerouse is interesting most recent lava flow on island. Bezos has a place down at the end. Park in the parking lot and walk a little. Go very early traffic is crazy.
You can snorkel along the point in front of hotel. The Dumps is another spot but has currents.
