No it’s not! Mexico City especially in any neighborhood tourists would go is very safe.

I agree. Safety is as much of an issue as in any big city, but no worse than anywhere else if you stick to the touristy/nicer neighborhoods.

+1. I live in NYC and generally am more concerned about safety here than I have ever been in CDMX. If you’re staying and roaming around the main neighborhoods that tourists visit, there’s no safety issue beyond just generally being aware of your surroundings. Ubers are plentiful and safe to use.

Here now. Definitely a lot of tapping. Haven’t used my Amex.

As far as tours, I’d recommend the Airbnb experiences. I did a churro class and crafting class. Really fun.

Stay in a nicer hotel and ask the hotel concierge to set you up with drivers. I might use a tour for Tenochtitlam or Guadalupe as they are a bit far out of town but you can just take an Uber to the museums.

I don't have a group recommendation but do rent a bike and ride down the Paseo Reforma on Sunday when it is closed. We did a food bike tour and really enjoyed it. CDMX is a biking city.

Is CDMX still having water shortage issues?

I felt very safe in Mexico City November 2024. We loved it.
Uber works great.
For those 50+, Road Scholar was perfect! ,
Enough free time, too.
Note the group tilts toward 65-78 though.
Contramar restaurant is worth reserving ahead by email.
The Jumex museum is fun to see.
City Market blows US supermarkets out of the water.
The museum of folk art is fun.
And the ballet folklorica is wonderful in a beautiful building with a 9:30 am Sunday performance to boot.
We used bottled water for brushing our teeth.
We did not eat street food…but everything in the hotel and restaurants.
We did not get sick or experience altitude problems.

NP here also interested in tours for Mexico City. 50yo mom taking my teenage son. We are well traveled in big cities in Europe and the US but new to Mexico. I have been advised that we should stick to tours and touristy areas.

Eat Like a Local is on our list. Any companies people recommend for other tours? We are looking at Teotihuacan, the Frida Kahlo museum, and other major tourist attractions.

Eat like a local is a wonderful woman-owned and operated small tour company. They do food walking tours in CDMX that are fabulous. I don’t think you need to have a guide for everything there but I would do one of their tours and probably a guided tour for the anthropology museum.

We are looking for a great all-inclusive or mostly all-inclusive tour to Mexico City. Open to different price points and lengths - it will be our first time in Mexico City and we just want a reputable company that will take us to the major attractions. Thanks for any suggestions!
