We would probably rent to start, but I want to be in an area where I can buy a condo later and my daughter won't have to change schools. Affordability is key. The schools also need to be good. I don't mean we need Langley, but not schools where safety is sometimes an issue either. Ideally $2000 for a 2BR for rent. I don't know what it would be to buy. Can you recommend areas to look at?

Your kid can walk to Cardinal ES and Swanson MS, and then go to Yorktown HS. As a single mom I’d imagine the ease of getting your kid to/from school would be a huge help, plus Westover is cute!
This is OP. I would LOVE to stay in Arlington. This is an excellent find. Thank you! If you have any other suggestions like this, please send them my way. I have a health condition where I overheat easily (as in dangerously overheat, not just feel hot), so I'm concerned about the window units, but maybe that's all I will be able to get in my price range.

Search where condos are in your range.
There are no $270,000 2 bedroom condos in Fairfax County, and definitely not ones with a $500 condo fee.
