We have a house on the Shenandoah River. It's in the town of Shenandoah (which isn't at all "cute" but it's not too far from Massannutten).

Canaan Valley meets these criteria. The elevation is great for cooler summer weather.

I don’t know. I went up to central PA recently and there was so much traffic compared to when I went up there as a kid to visit my grandparents. Makes you want to drive out to the New Mexico desert or something.

We are starting to explore the idea of a second home for weekend trips and all of the random dcps days off. We love outdoor activities, views of mountains, hiking, biking. Would love some breweries or a cute town nearby.

We’ve also want a place that’s not as hot as dc over the summer (so maybe some mountain breezes).

We’ve been exploring areas near Lost River, WV (and surrounding areas), Front Royal, Charlottesville, etc.

Are there other areas we should explore? Rural PA?

Where are some hidden gems with lots of natural beauty within 3 hours of dc?
