I mean, no one is stopping you from buying the basic 12 year-olds of your acquaintance Ulta and Starbucks gift cards. OP sounded like she wanted to branch out.

Gift card like target, so she can buy things she likes when going shopping with parents or friends.

My almost 12yo and her friends seem to want non-makeup Sephora stuff, jelly cat stuffed animals, stationery, fancy Japanese markers, bags (ranging from toiletry bags to packing cubes), big sweatshirts and comfy pajamas, gift cards.

Agree. My 13 year old would be offended by a bag of face masks and nail polish. Definitely don't do that unless requested.

I really don’t understand these questions. I know that tweens are hard to buy for, I have a 12yo. I also know what she likes, so if you’re buying for my kid ask me, I’ll give you ideas.
She’s not girly so wouldn’t enjoy Sephora or any girly stuff. She’s sporty, loves soccer and basketball. She loves animals especially dogs. Currently is into rubix cubes. Anything snoopy.

What are some of her basic interests? How much do you want to spend? You could just do a Sephora, Amazon or Target gift card. My kid loves a gift bag with stuff like disposable facemasks, press on nails, lip gloss or balm and nail polish. Maybe put it in a small toiletries bag.
