I'm the PP. If it's "made by man" it isn't the real thing. Just like a book "written" by AI isn't a real book. And I've never posted about this.

That said, I do have "fake" 4ct total weight diamond stud earrings that I wear every day, because DH gave me a real set after I lost one of my 3ct total weight studs. I only wear the real things for important functions. (In days gone by, they would have been called "paste" diamonds." People assume they are the real thing. Though that probably has to do with the reality that people know who I am when I am running around, not the appearance of the earrings.

No, lab diamonds are not paste. Lab and mined diamonds are both made of carbon atoms arranged in a crystalline lattice structure. They have the same physical properties. They were made due to the same exertion of heat and pressure. A diamond expert would not be able to tell the two apart.

You have no leg to stand on, idiot. Please educate yourself.

There’s a lot of wrong info here. Paste diamonds aren’t diamonds at all. They are leaded glass backed with foil. Lab diamonds are not paste, they are real diamonds made inexpensively in a lab. Natural diamonds are mined, but have the same composition as lab diamonds, and have been hoarded by DeBeers to raise their value since they’re not actually rare. If you’re looking to avoid the ethics issues and high costs of natural diamonds, lab diamonds are better. Paste jewelry is still admirable for artistic reasons, especially if it is handcrafted.

If you are Jane Climber, a big "diamond" will appear fake, whether it is or not.

Who spends a significant amount of money on a real, very large diamond if their net worth isn't at least 100mm?

I chose a light green sapphire.

Sigh. I'm so tired of seeing this failure to understand basic chemistry. It's got to be one poster, right?

Yes, it's the same poster. Do they think we're stupid? Maybe they own a mined diamond business

I prefer bands over big diamonds any day.

Wear what you like.

Large diamonds are definitely not a flex anymore, given how inexpensively you can get a large lab. But that was the case even before lab diamonds became ubiquitous thanks to everyone wearing large moissanite engagement rings and passing them off as diamonds. Not sure I'd call large diamonds "out of style," but we are probably getting there.

I've been wearing my wedding ring (white gold with tiny bezel-set diamonds) without my engagement ring lately, because I like the simpler look. But insisting a lab grown diamond is "tacky" is ignorant classism, and, bottom line, stupid. So I'd stop rambling about that. And again -- just wear whatever you like.

I think it’s a big tacky to wear a large stone 24-7. It’s fine in the evening for a dressy event, but otherwise- no. The simple elegant bands will take you further.

I think lab grown diamonds are awesome - way better than slave labor diamonds. But I have been looking at engagement bands and lots of ads pop up for me due to the algorithms in social media. I find a plain band with a 3 ct diamond boring and basic. I prefer antique jewelry or handmade jewelry.

I think the large stones, within reason, can look really classy but it depends on the person's vibe. If someone is genuinely glamorous then they can rock a big stone, if theyre not than better to stay small.

Do you think in the new era of large lab grown diamonds that simple bands are more classy?

I find the large lab grown diamonds are tacky.

I still have my original engagement ring but tend to just wear two eternity diamond bands. I feel like most women in my circle don’t wear huge 3+ carat rings. FWIW our HHI is $800k so it’s not a wealth thing.
