Scrum alliance has scrum master certifications

I never paid much attention to this stuff until recently. We have a new hire who I’m supposed to be working with closely and he professed his love for Agile and three week sprints. So I decided to do a little learning to work with him better.

Yeah, no thanks. It’s so bro. Scrum master? I have no patience for all that.

Helps me work with IT projects in my organ (I'm in a non-IT team) and all of the lessons learned can be applied to my own team's work and in real life. There was a lot of group work. Felt like business school.

Where I'm at they take their background grooming and retrospectives very seriously, although I've managed to be able to get out of doing either of them. I don't need a bunch of developers involved in scheduling and I really don't need their feedback

Better than self certification, Google up all of the Agile buzz words and learn to use them in context. Walk in on Monday and start up a sprint zero. Get your scrum of scrums on everyone's calendar. Define your minimum viable product. Play a little planning poker. Then state your definition of done. Follow these steps and success is guaranteed.

Agile is mostly garbage. The daily scrums are fine but we dropped all the other meetings a long time ago.

Agree with this. I did one a few years ago for Agile program management (forget what it was called), paid for by contractor employer at the time. Really expensive wishy-washy waste of time and money.

There’s a whole bunch of stuff like this floating around. Check out Coursera and see if it works.

FWIW, I can’t stand Agile. I don’t mind the general framework but the specifics seem nearing religious level devotion.

Certifications are garbage

I’ve been asked to take on project management and product management for a small business client. I am familiar with the Atlassian products and have done some online project management certifications.

I don’t have a “real “certificate for agile nor do I have any type of CPM certificate. Since I am a contractor, any training I do would be paid out-of-pocket myself. Definitely do not want to do a 2000 hour study situation, sit for an exam, and then take continuing education credits.

But I’d also like to improve my skill set so I can hit the ground running in this new remit. Any suggestions for a good general certification that is under $1000. Need it to be online only, live instruction over a weekend OK!
