Issues with Lafayette parents are well documented on this forum. Do a search and find out for yourself, OP.

No. I am too lazy. Please do that for me.

You sound both like a Lafayette parent, and not at all. 🤣

We are an IB family, but didn't move to the neighborhood or start at Lafayette until 4th grade. We found it to be insular and unfriendly, with parent (and child) cliques based on where kids went to preschool.

We are in-bounds but we have school friends who are in the neighborhood and those who live elsewhere in DC. Yes, it's very convenient to have playdates close by, but it hasn't kept us from getting together with families who live a little further out.
If you are in the market for aftercare, look into CCPC. It's a smaller program, housed in a church a few blocks away. The staff picks up the kids daily and walks them over, where it's mostly supervised free-play. We've had a very good experience there over the past few years.

We are oob there and I would say yes to your questions. But I also agree with the poster directly above. If you need aftercare, it becomes a ghost town in 4th and 5th. And it’s not a particularly well run aftercare program so my kid whines a lot about it.

its a neighborhood school ---- a lot kids are walking to school, self dismiss in 4th/5th , walk to friends houses etc. You obviously wont be able to do that OOB.

It can be a tough to really integrate socially as an OOB student. It is very much a neighborhood school. Teachers fine. We had a weak 4th grade team, but otherwise better than average. We traded social scene for academics and were ok with our decision, but ymmv.

The problem is that 70% of the kid socializing is connected to adult socializing. So you kid has to make friends with the kids whose moms don't organize the social lives of their kids around their mom friends.

We have been matched for a 3rd grade spot. Can you please share experiences from the school and school community? Thanks!
