Go to the recently redone Mon Ami Gabi -- great atmosphere and feels like a special occasion place. They bring a very pretty complimentary birthday profiterole with a candle if you let them know you're celebrating!

Capital Grille would be quiet, the food is good and approachable for older people. I think they also appreciate white linens and good service. Easy parking and elevator if needed.

That would be my first choice. And they bring an extra dessert with a candle for a celebration. I also like Julii, especially if you can sit outside on a nice day. They bring a sparkler for birthday celebrations. Melina can be loud at dinner but might be okay at lunch (and they also do the sparkler).

Passage to India is full of old people. It has a quiet, calm vibe with a nice decor. I would have recommended it whole-heartedly based on the food too, except that recently I felt the dishes weren't as good. It's just fine now. Not great.

L' Auberge Chez Francois is very nice.

We celebrated FIL's 80th at Cooper's Hawk in Rockville and everyone enjoyed it.

I would like to take my mother out to a nice lunch for her birthday somewhere special and not too loud given my mother's age. Any recommendations in the area? She lives in Bethesda but we can really go anywhere.
