Some older people have never gotten comfortable with opposite sex references about going to the bathroom. Not saying it's right, just saying he was trying to be helpful without getting personal/anatomical.

Uh, weird to take this personally. I'm a man and I've had the opposite thing happen from older women.

Some older people just refer to the bathroom as the "little boys" or "little girls" room.

He wasn't trying to keep you from smashing the patriarchy.
