Exactly. It is marketing manipulation but all of the clubs are doing it. First tier MLS Next is Alexandria, Achilles, SYC, DCU, Armour and Bethesda in this area. I apologize if I left someone out going off the top of my head or if someone was added that I missed. It is a very SELECT group of local athletes. It is positive for this 2nd tier to form as we have enough local talent to play each other without a lot of travel. VA needs to play more against MD before you start needing to go NJ, DE or PA. Less travel = more time to actually develop into a MLS Next 1st tier product. 95% of the local kids do not need to travel outside of DC, MD or VA to find talent equivalent enough to challenge them. Under this new system, some kids will develop into 1st tier players and move to 1st tier clubs. Over time, I suspect some clubs will have excellent production records and eventually replace some of the current 1st tier clubs who have subpar production records for player development.

They sent an email out awhile ago and just referenced mls nexr, not mls next2.

Exactly. The MLSN Two side of Bethesda, for example, will absorb their second tier of true top MLS NEXT talent and serve as a bridge between that and their NAL league. It’s naturally going to be higher quality competition then it’s equivalent at the St. James or even local ECRL competition.

They have no MLS Next Team. Only 2nd tier playing against mostly other teams that are also mostly in the first year of MLSNext TWO. As it is currently structured, the MLS Next 2 level of competition will not be anywhere near ECNL RL in Virginia. St. James, McLean, VRSC, and Virginia Surf would have zero chance against Herndon, Arlington, Villarreal, etc. Marketing gimmick.

It's no different than an RL club marketing they are ECNL.

The St. James is adding boys programs and will field times in MLS Next 2 starting this fall. They are marketing it as MLS Next - jumping on the wagon of using the league name for marketing purposes. Does anyone know if they are forming competitive teams? No doubt will be an initial year or two of building, but do they seem to know what they're doing?
