Not even for a night? We have a King Temperpedic and are very spoiled by that, but it’s no problem to sleep in a Queen here and there. Even when we go on vacation, the king bed is not up to our usual standards even at pricy hotels. It’s the cost of traveling and I’m willing to deal with it.

You can't be flexible for a couple days and just get less than optimal sleep? In order to see family?

My parents have slept in separate rooms for ever because my father snores loudly, and apparently it's unfixable. When they travel, they sleep in the beds that are available. Sometimes hotels have two beds, sometimes only one. Basically they travel if they really want to, and they deal with the disadvantages.

Are you really sleeping separately if you have two twins pushed together? If you are still in the same room, I think that counts!

As an adult, I no longer want to be a house guest anywhere. I always get a hotel. Once people know that, they just consider it a "quirk" of mine and don't badger me into staying anywhere.

We have a full size bed. Our bedroom can't handle a queen without blocking doors.

We moved to a king to accommodate the dog sleeping with us sometimes, but also my spouse is 6'5 so the extra length is nice. But we recently moved into a house that has a guest room that one of us sleeps in throughout the week depending on our wake up schedules. It's been amazing to have. When we travel we do sleep in the full or queen that is provided because it's completely tolerable. Just not what we would choose at home. But I wouldn't feel at all bad about declining a less than comfortable sleeping arrangement and am curious that your family does. It's your money!

We replaced our queen with a king, and are much more comfortable. But we did it because we have 2 dogs. They aren’t huge (30lb mutt and 8lb toy poodle) but they stretch out and push us off the bed lol.

When we do need to share a queen, I have found that completely separate top sheets/blankets helps a lot.

We can deal with a queen if we must for a couple nights, but it is strongly not preferred. We love the separate adjustable mattresses, and they are super common now. Sharing a queen is equivalent of you each having a crib width mattress. I'm a grown adult, I feel no shame about wanting - and providing for myself - a twin size worth of space. I've joked that with pets, we should just push two fulls together.

Stay in a hotel.

My husband and I absolutely would not go back to a queen-size bed. We're both full grown adults and don't sleep well that close to each other. People who make comments/judgments about that are insecure or, in your case, emotional (grieving).

We handle it by staying in hotels rather than houses, or just sucking it up when we absolutely have to. But yeah, we sleep in a queen bed maybe once every two years or so at this point. We're spoiled but it affects our sleep and we love sleep.

Over the course of our marriage, my spouse and I have moved from a full to a queen to a king and, now, two twins pushed together due to different mattress preferences and restless sleep that disturbs each other. The issue is that we can no longer comfortably be houseguests in most cases. A relative wanted us to stay in her smallish guest bed after Passover seder and we politely declined, although not before enduring some judgmental comments about us not wanting to sleep wrapped up in each other (she's recently widowed and misses that). I admit to feeling a little sheepish about our two separate beds, but it's working. Anyone else find separate sleeping a boon to their relationship?
