Wait, the brand? Do people actually think there's a difference in gas quality between brands? This thought has never crossed my mind in nearly 35 years driving and buying gas.

The Exxon on 123 @ Kirby might have the highest gas prices in NoVA. It is the last gas station before DC if taking GWP or Chain Bridge to DC, so they can charge DC prices.

I have always been fascinated by this. I just assumed that all their revenue came from their repair business, but don’t think about why the price of gas is so high tooo deeply.

Interesting. Another crazy high one is at MacArthur and Goldsboro near Glen Echo.

The gas station next to the Watergate used to be infamous for high prices too…I’ve seen $6+/gallon there. The reason is Joe Mamo, his Capitol Petroleum Group, and ideal real estate locations with sky-high valuations.

IIRC, the gas stations are leased by individuals and there's a dispute between the person who owns them and supplies the gas and the people who are leasing them to provide repair and other services. One version of the story is that the owner wants to end the leases so he is charging high rates for the gas so customers avoid the stations and the leaseholders are forced out because they aren't doing well financially. Another version has the leaseholders able to set the prices for the gas, but forced to give the owner a share of the gas profits, so they charge high prices in hopes people don't purchase gas there, lowering amount the owner gets.

Why would they not be allowed? If people don’t want to pay that price, they can go to another gas station. There’s one across the street.

Regular is $4.279 and Supreme is $5.279.

More than $1 per gallon than other gas stations nearby.

Why are they allowed such high price?
