No parent should ever lose a child, and those that do usually don't do a cash grab. Grief does not suddenly transform you into someone you're not. It just shows others who you really are.

And apparently you are willing to judge people you don't even know who lost a child to SIDs. Disgusting.

I've seen a supposedly desperate need for help with a security deposit and/or movers multiple times. One housing crises go-fund-me that I saw was after the NC floods and was a request to help "fix her home" and replace stuff lost in the flood -- so I could kind of understand that one (although the "she can't work right now because she is a single mom of 4 kids" rang a little privileged -- i know plenty of single moms with a handful of kids who "work right now" and this particular single mom is divorced from a guy who makes a lot of money as a manager in a car dealership and who pays plenty of child support). And I recently saw one from someone who simply hadn't planned for moving expenses because she is irresponsible and didn't feel like it and then got all rage-y about how much movers charge and set up go-fund me begging for help. A woman from my church who a month ago set up a go-fund-me desperately begging for thousands in financial help for her (local) move (which she knew was coming months in advance) just posted a picture of her "post spa day glow" having spent an entire day getting pampered at a spa because "sometimes you just have to treat yourself!" This is one of many expensive things (including a concert ticket with a back-stage pass) she has posted lately that many who contributed generously to her go-fund-me could not afford for themselves.

One family I know launched a GFM for a medical crisis and quickly raised a substantial amount of money.

What most people don’t know is that one of the adults in the family has a serious gambling problem. The family has medical insurance and access to resources, so I’m doubtful they really needed money for the medical crisis.

PS - They went on a big spring break trip as well.

I see which of our mutual friends are donating and I just want to scream, you haven’t seen these people in person since before Covid and you don’t know how well they are doing financially now … save your $25!

Not one but TWO families I know who circulated “urgent” Go Fund Me requests within the last year or so are both on major vacations for spring break (think: Disney, Caribbean, Europe, etc.). Both GFM campaigns had significant targets to cover pressing financial issues tied to a crisis (think: medical or housing crisis).

I will never fall for the sob stories again.
