So why do I keep getting UTIs and what can I do to stop from getting them?

Take a cranberry pill that also has D-Mannose. That resolved my urinary tract issues.

Not sure you answered whether there is a culture to confirm infection or if you just have symptoms consistent with a UTI. Could be overactive bladder or interstitial cystitis.

If they are confirmed, constipation is a cause.

Vaginal estrogen can reduce the incidence of UTIs by 50%. Recurrent UTIs are a common symptom of perimenopause. I had three in one year before I started on vaginal estrogen. I haven’t had any in 3 years now. Plus, it helps with vaginal dryness, pain with sex, and frequent urination.

I used to get them pretty frequently. In addition to peeing after sex, I have to rinse w water (usually just pour a cup or two of water to rinse myself while over toilet). Have been doing this over a decade and no uti since.

🤔

On low dose b/c for other issues, so I'm not bleeding.

Definitely not an acid thing - that was cut from my diet 8 years ago due to acid reflux. No coffee no citrus, etc. The one exception us summer tomatoes from my garden, but those aren't even in the ground yet.

Maybe a perimenopause thing - next stop my gyn, to see what she thinks/ask if she has any suggestions

Perimenopause. Try vaginal estrogen. I used cream daily for 2 weeks then switched to Estring. My doc also recommends taking vitamin c to make urine acidic. can take 1 gummy morning and one in evening.

I was similar to you, with no obvious reason for my recurrent UTIs. Finally, I went to a urologist who put me on a different kind of antibiotics that finally cleared them up. I finally got my life back.

Get an ultrasound. Is your bladder inflamed? Is your diet too acidic? Do you test positive for the bacteria each time or does it just feel like a UTI? You might need a uro-gyn & possiblity long term antibiotics.

Symptom of perimenopause. Read The New Menopause.

PP added it to add that my symptoms routinely flared towards the end of my period. So there was definitely a hormonal component. But it wasn’t recurrent UTIs.

First, are you sure they are UTIs? As in is your urine being cultured and growing bacteria? It may be that you simply experience urethral irritation after sex like I do which causes burning and pain while urinating. In my case it’s a mild form of interstitial cystitis and not recurrent UTIs

Try a vulva balm like v magic. Sometimes light friction like from your underwear can bother things. Also consider hormone check. Peri.

Happily married for 25 years, always pee before and after sex, drink a ton of water (usually finish two 32oz water bottles at work plus more at home), and wipe front to back.

So why do I keep getting UTIs and what can I do to stop from getting them?
