The ID itself is fine. What’s not fine is the TSA potentially creating a problem by not recognizing that it is a legitimate Real ID.
Ok then send your kid to the DMV to make sure it’s fine, because 2 people telling you it’s not doesn’t sound fine, or send your kid his passport. He’s old enough to keep track of these things himself.

It is a REAL ID (which he got on his own at the DC DMV) according to DC and according to pics of examples I can see online. He started his travel (all by himself!!) at DCA without a problem or questions about his DC license. On the two other legs there was a question. He was able to travel just fine (all by himself!!).
