Applied on time for 3 week residential college. All A/A- except 1 B+ (which has now improved to A-). Private school. No SAT score yet.

No. Summer programs do not involve REGIONAL AOs. It’s simply too expensive to use hundreds of regional AOs for the small number of summer applicants. These programs are for profit.

The summer program has space for fewer students than the freshman class does. Being rejected for it doesn’t mean you will be rejected for college.

That’s not always the case. (There is an overlap for some of the enrichment programs).

For a weeklong enrichment program or the three-week summer courses? The former is very competitive.

If Chicago is the dream school, your DC could ED1 / ED2. I don't see any issue there.
If Chicago is not the dream school, you will thank Chicago summer program admin for the WL, when your DC got in the real dream school in ED.

It's not unusual for private school students to be excluded from these summer programs. The GPA from a private school is typically much lower than the required threshold to be considered.

On the other hand, our CCO advises that you don't need summer programs for college applications.
