Trees are the fastest growing investment and can be invested at any stage. There are people that specialize in buying selling forests at any stage to take them to maturity. Though, not all trees are amenable to investing for fast growth (EG Rosewood) and old growth slowdown in growth, so they don't make good investments. Monoculture can also be an issue, growing just oaks for example is problem.
People blame logging on the disappearance of the ivory billed woodpecker, but it was getting its bum kicked by the pileated anyway.
