Depends what the kids like. My husband has family there so we have been many times but I am not from there so have a visitor’s perspective.

Love Esther’s Follies - up to you if appropriate for your kids or too over their heads.

You can rents kayaks or canoes in Zilker Park for low-stress paddling with lots of turtles and a city view; the park also has a little nature center that is small but good for kids into that. The state capital tour is a good tour and so is the history museum for kids inclined towards those sorts of things. Swimming and (mild) hiking are within reach too.

This most recent visit we did the Museum of the Weird (think circus oddities) and also Wonderspaces (immersive art installtions).

Unlike here, good Tex-mex and BBQ options abound. We love Amy’s Ice Cream and they have one on South Congress. Mexican vanilla is a fave flavor, love it with their hot fudge though sweet cream with strawberries is good too.

Esther's Follies is a fun show and you should watch the bats fly out from under the Congress Street Bridge

I have two days in Austin with my tween. I know my kid will want to spend some time wandering around shops on South Congress. What else do folks recommend?
