Why would anyone happy with a federal job spend time on a resume? I spend time on a resume only when looking..


Because successful people move up and do new things within the federal government. That requires updating resume.

+1 on chat GPT. I was helping my kid write one and it took about 20 minutes. It could take 5 if you don't take it seriously, but it's kind of fun to tell it, "add skills including SAS and SQL" and see the result instantly. And then try something else. And something else!

Eh, I'm mid-career and have never spent more than 3 years in one job, but I only update when I'm looking for a new one. I basically stopped updating LinkedIn when I got my first permanent fed job.

But it's about time now.

Depends on how good one wants it to be..a formal polished resume from scratch is a project. Hard to believe anyone will look at it though given current environment. Its a gamble.

They sent out an email this afternoon. If I do not provide a resume they will assume my position description is accurate to my job. I am almost retirement age. I do not have a current resume. I have been at my job for many years. My position description is just different then my resume would be. For example, it does not say I use SAS or my publications. It has some things really don't do as well. Do I need to write a resume? I am super busy at work right now and hosting lots of family for the holidays... I feel like it will not really matter?
