Actually, Chief of Schools Peter Moran made that promise. At least in public.

Taylor might have made that same promise in private but Peter Moran is the one who said it when asked that the BOE.

Taylor has promised it too. Either way, both need to be terminated. They've done nothing this year to make things better.

Well, Peter just got rehired to his role and it looks like everyone in Montgomery County is determined to give Taylor a long runway for being "new."

But I agree with you, neither has delivered meaningful change in their respective roles.

Why? Shortage of people there too?

No idea. Ask Taylor.

Because they stick together. You know, a code.

There's a code to get into the bathrooms?

Even if it weren't creepy and invasive, nobody has the staff to put an adult in every restroom to police them, even if only during breaks. So you either leave them open and available for mischief and mayhem, or you close them and let the good kids suffer.

Some schools have tried removing the outer doors for easier monitoring, but that just drives illicit activities into the stalls and makes the whole experience uncomfortable for everyone else. Mine always hates when security is outside shouting for people to move along when she's legitimately using the restroom.

MCPS supposedly has money from a tobacco settlement that will be used for "vape detectors" in the restrooms, but no word on the actual timeline for those, never mind the methods of monitoring and enforcement. The more I read about the devices and how they work, it's clear that boondoggle is going to be more trouble than it's worth.

Stricter punishments for those offenders who *are* caught for infractions would be a first step, for sure.

The principle at Whitman sent out a letter this week advising that the vape detectors were now active and that students caught vaping or smoking would face consequences. Not sure if they have been activated throughout the county or if this is rolling out on different timelines at different schools. Hopefully this will lead to a better bathroom situation for the students.

What? Do you mean they will vape outside and poop inside? Wow what a concept.

In MS, at least 6 bathrooms are locked out of 12+ bathrooms.

It will change when enough parents have the guts to organize and confront MCPS on this issue. Unfortunately, too many parents are scared or too worried about preserving their relationships with MCPS to advocate the way they should for their children.
