Our gov has been expanding H1B and opt for 35 years , taking Jobs from our children to give to cheap foreign labor

I graduated during the 2008 recession. My friends and I didn't get jobs having anything to do with our majors for our 1st jobs out of college. We started out as recruiters, personal trainers, administrative assistants, or worked at hotels. Eventually, we found our paths.

I have two graduating and neither has a job yet. I think at least one will land something soon,getting a lot of interviews and good feedback but waiting. The other is a politics/policy guy and oh man it’s tough in DC. I have told both they have a soft landing but yes it is way more stressful than college app season was.

Me too OP. I believe he will be fine in the long run and adapt to the new reality, but it’s sure not good timing to be graduating with an environmental science degree

Feeling the same was as you OP. First it was the Great Recession of 2008 - 2010 and then Covid from late 2019 to late 2021 - all have affected our kids social and financial mobility. And now this job climate and AI. I’m just glad we have a big enough place for both of our children to shelter in

It feels like we are going back decades in time.

This has always been a traditional and good idea, because rent is wasted money.

He can also tutor kids as a part time job.

OP, you're not the only one. My DS will graduate from Yale shortly, and he is still looking for jobs. Please do not ask about his major. The job market is terrible at the moment.

I’d be worried too, OP. Maybe it’s important for them to have a back-up plan in case the job part is slow in coming. Volunteering, studying for extra skills or certifications, learning another language or programming language, etc.
