Vinyard Vines has a Kentucky Derby line, and they literally have a dress with the horses coming out of the gate on it, lol. Look to get inspiration, then look at second hand or a less expensive mall retailer for a dress, jumper or romper that works. The big thing is the hat though. You need a hat. I'd find a hat, then build around that. https://www.vineyardvines.com/category/derby-women-shop/?nav=category--derby-pillheader--derby-women-shop----

Agree that a cocktail dress with fascinator or hat is fine. Alternatively a nice suit or pantsuit.

I mean it is affordable for me. It also really bugs me when people say “affordable” or “won’t break the bank” without posting a budget, because that can mean $5 to $5,000.

Go to Goodwill/secondhand for the dress and buy a cheap hat online.

Wear clothes you already have.

Do you belong to a buy nothing group? I would try to borrow something. Otherwise, get a fascinator or hat and wear a sundress (whatever you have already)

Hi! Any ideas as to an affordable outfit for a Derby party? I’m in my early 40s and am petite if that’s helpful. Thanks!
