LACs seem to either be super selective or hardly selective at all and there doesn’t seem to be a lot in the middle. What am I missing? Looking for real mid tier not DCUM mid tier.

People have listed a bunch above and there are many more reachable for your kid. Is there a geographic preference?

If a recruitable athlete, this will get you into pretty much anywhere other than NESCAC/W&L, etc. If just athletic, not sure that there is a real middle tier (although I might instead argue that there is a huge middle tier of excellent but not particularly selective options).

My DS had similar stats from a very rigorous HS and applied to 5 of these and got into all 5. Substantial merit aid at 3 of them (one of which he will be attending).

1320 SAT (after 1400 psat, not sure what happened) in March and will retake in August and October, he has a couple of Bs freshman year and will be around 3.8/4.3 ish after Jr year.
