I don't know what they're talking about specifically, but I've lived all over the world and Morocco was where I experienced the most intense and aggressive sexual harassment of my life. Just next level threatening and it didn't feel safe. I was in my 20s though, I'm sure it's different if you're in a family vacation.

How is that behavior allowed in a majority Muslim country?

Sometimes it is the tourists who refuse to dress by cultural norms and at other times they refuse to behave by cultural norms
Dress similarly to other women and try to blend in
Don’t behave in public in a way that a local woman never would

Oh, make sure all food that you consume is served hot. The markets where food is sold doesn’t always have refrigeration

Get one of those steripens that reí sells to sterilize water, or a water bottle with a filter straw

Wow blame women much?

For the record I didn’t experience sexual harassment at all in Morocco and neither did my teen daughter. And we were there for 12 days.

But I don’t like the idea that somehow if a person did, it’s her that is the problem!

Yeah, for the record I was there 6 months living with a host family and was certainly aware of local dress and customs. There's only so much blending in you can do as a young, blue eyed blonde woman. Probably the only stand out behavior I had was the expectation it might be ok to go out alone sometimes, and that was not really the case. Im sure it would be totally different in my 40s with a husband and kids.

In a land, you need to follow the ways of the land.
Just like visiting someone’s house, follow the ways of the house

I'm interested in seeing both Fes and Chefchaouen. How many days do we need for both? Did you go to Merzouga from Marrakesh or Fes? Bus or Taxi?

You can do Fez in 2 days

Absolutely loved Morocco! It’s a really incredible place. We visited Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech and did an overnight desert excursion (which was the highlight). Fez was the most impressive of the cities. Casablanca can be skipped. Marrakech is probably the best to visit if you don’t have much time because it’s a great blend of ancient and modern. You can visit the most luxurious hotels and yet experience the old walled town. The food in Morocco is fabulous! Recommend a cooking class and lots of shopping

Every single one of these threads are people who had a good time and people who were harassed. It is impossible to tell if it's a good place to visit or not.

We flew into Marrakech nonstop from IAD, hired a driver to take us directly to Chefchaoen, spent one day and one night there (you don’t need more than a day there, though an extra day would be nice bc there is a good day hike from there). Then we stayed in Fes for two nights, then we did a three day package tour from Fes to Marrakech that included the desert, Dades Gorge, and Ait Ben Haddou. We had a private driver/guide for that too. Then a couple of nights in Marrakech before flying home. It was during spring break, so our timing was tight, but if you have more time, I’d spend two nights in Chefchaoen and two nights in the desert, and maybe three nights in Fes, for a more relaxed pace. We are used to active and packed trips, so our pace was good for our family, but others would probably feel like it was too much.

Friends went on desert tour and Marrakech recently. Raving about it...anyone else's experience?
