The best plan is to sell current car next week at an inflated price after the tariffs hit. After the tarriffs are paused again by trump (usually within 24 hours, but he may wait a few more days this time to not look so weak), buy a new car at regular price.

IF the tariffs go into affect, they’ll last a week at best. People overpaying now are dumb.

We actually bought an extra car for our family. Our oldest is a 2014 with over 150K miles and it could keep going for a while, but having the extra car for our teen to use for now gives us a buffer in case the older car dies. No point in getting rid of it.

We've replaced two of our cars. The tariffs are going to increase the cost a lot after April.

Car sales increasing will boost the economy overall, as a car is the second most expensive item most people ever buy. (Boat owners, I know you exist, but not many of us buy those, at least not more than once! OOF! )

No, people who might need a car in the next year or so are buying one right now before the tariffs are in place.

This. We Planned to wait until December but bought last weekend instead.

Someone posted a couple weeks ago that dealerships are all saying it is a good time to buy vehicles.

Picked up my new car today (purchased 2 weeks ago), and I was astounded at how busy the dealership was. Apparently they sold 8 used cars in 2 hours today. That is a record according to the salesman I spoke to. I had a bit of a wait because the person processing the paperwork was backed up with many purchases in front of me. People seemed in panic mode and glad I made my deal before the madness.
