The dentist sticky is families recommending their dentists. I think that makes sense when a Google search will turn up all the dentists in your area - what you need to know is if they are good for your kid.

For dyslexia providers, most providers aren’t findable online. In addition there are multiple certifications and job titles for tutors and parents don’t know what to even search for.

I wonder if we could do both - have the directory, but then also have the thread (as a sticky) where people could recommend/give information about a particular provider? Would that serve the purpose?

Thanks. It will take me some time to put it together. I was thinking I would do a Google form and have providers submit their info (program they use, certification, area they serve, on line or in person) and I might check to be sure they are who they are, and then plan to quality check the list every six months or something. Then I’d post the link to the resulting Google sheet. Is that all okay with you? So the post wouldn’t be the list, the post would be the link to the spreadsheet.

And thank you - I think this will be helpful to our community.

There used to be (still is?) a stickied post for pediatric dentists

In the special needs forum people talk a lot about the challenge of finding an Orton Gillingham trained/certified tutor for their dyslexic child. As far as I can see it is haphazard - word of mouth, schools keep lists, psychologists may keep lists, and a few of the certifying bodies keep very incomplete lists. There is no Angie’s List (or whatever) for dyslexia providers. Dyslexia impacts 1 in 5 kids, so it’s a big problem.

Would you be open to housing/linking to a provider directory for dyslexia for the DMV if I were to create such a thing?

Full disclosure I would probably benefit from doing it - I am an academic language therapist for dyslexia (I remediate dyslexia and have a private practice). But I’m also the mom of a dyslexic kid and I know exactly how desperate for help I felt when my kid needed a tutor and we couldn’t find one. I’d like to make that better.

Would that be possible?
