It's not that tricky, but it's not free and it doesn't take place on campus. There are three providers (JCC, the Keegan and iGen) and they will come and take the kids, and then you pick up at 6pm from that location. They are all nearby. It's kind of nice because people can pick and choose (iGen one day, JCC another...)

Do you happen to know if Ross students receive preference for aftercare at these locations?
.

Yes.

So tricky. I would be happy to connect with you, but i'm... VERY averse to putting my email on this site!

Lots of families hang out at the playground after pickup (3:25). Could you swing by? The playground is open to the community 24/7 so you can easily just hang out.

I totally get that! I'll put my email on and you can write me. I'm ark1818@gmail.com.

And good to know re: playground. I work til 5 so would be hard to be there at pickup, unfortunately...

I can't imagine you would be unhappy there, but it all depends on what your current school is and if you care about feeder pattern later on. Also, what kind of commute are you talking about? I would really prioritize a walk to school if your current school is decent, but that's just me.

Thank you for this! Feeder middle and high are the same for both my IB and Ross. Current school also has an amazing principal and great staff, different demographics of course (which is not a bad thing in my mind.) Lotteried sorta for the heck of it, mostly cause the facilities at current school aren't great, but we are otherwise very happy. Just didn't want to pass up a chance to get into one of those super sought after dream schools...and then, we somehow did and it's a tougher call than I thought even tho yes, no bad decision here.

You should visit! They let us come when we got our lottery spot. I also had assumed that I would say no bc I was pretty satisfied with the current school. But i brought my kids, talked to the principal, observed the classes and we found it too good to pass up.

However, that's because we can walk/bike. Having to drive or metro does change things.

I asked! They said no. Which was disappointing.

Interesting. Yeah, i can see that it's not an obvious decision, if you are happy at a walkable school.

We also lotteried in but can bike/walk pretty easily. It's a truly excellent school, and about 30% out of bounds, so you wouldn't be alone.

Very hard to know it if is worth it without knowing your current school. But it's a very academically serious school, and they have a few curricular elements that other DCPS schools don't have, like a serious k-5 writing curriculum and a "peace of mind" curriculum that is incorporated daily. The teachers, math coach/literacy coach, and support staff are excellent, and the principal is exteremely capable. I have no regrets.

Looking to talk to Ross families. Somehow we lotteried in for K. It's not an easy decision for us because we love our current school, which is walkable. Ross is close, but we'd have to drive or metro. Want to see if this is truly worth a much more difficult commute.

I will be honest and say I didn't research the school much because I thought we had basically no shot of getting in but lotteried for the heck of it...
